Lithuanian basketball is rocked by an unprecedented scandal. Naglis players invested over 30 thousand euros to lose over 30 points from Žalgiris, and the match ended with a 103:66 victory for the Euroleague participants, writes Basketnews.lt.
The leaders of the club were suspicious that the players were weak in defense, they launched an internal investigation in the club and eventually found that the players had invested a huge amount of money that they would be convincingly defeated.
- It was really suspicious that almost everyone was against Naglis, and only a few percent were for them. Bookmakers equally assessed the chances of both possible outcomes - a representative of the local bookmaker told the Lithuanian media.
In this affair, the management of Naglis announced that they will severely punish whoever participated in this dirty game against the club and that the media will be informed in time about the culprits of the shameful act.
For now, the Lithuanian Basketball Association is passively following all of this, and the owner of Žalgiris, Vladimir Romanov, has requested an investigation and that those who brought shame to Lithuanian basketball be severely punished.
Portal Basketnews.lt claims to have received an anonymous letter in which it is said that they did something similar in Alitus and Šijaulija.
