Walton parted company with the Lakers after three seasons spent on the bench, with which he had two more years left on his contract, but there was an amicable termination of cooperation.
He was also an assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors, and in the 2015/16 season, when the first coach Steve Kerr was absent due to health reasons, he led the team to a record 24 consecutive victories at the start.
In his final season with the Los Angeles club, he finished with a disappointing and frustrating record of 37 wins and 45 losses, in a year in which much was expected with the arrival of LeBron James.
Vlade Divac, general manager of the Kings, fired coach Dave Jaeger, even though he achieved the best result since the 2005/06 season. recording 39 wins and 43 losses this season.
