Basketball national team player Nikola Vučević is the winner of the award for exceptional contribution to the promotion of Montenegro in the world, which was established by the Ministry of Sports and Youth within the National Team Day.
Due to his obligations in Orlando, Vucevic could not attend the Academy ceremony, and his sister received the award.
Orlando Center thanked the Ministry of Sports and Youth for recognizing his work and successes in the previous period.
"Thank you for choosing me in addition to a large number of successful athletes in Montenegro. I will continue to try to be the best possible example for the youth in Montenegro with my work and behavior," said Vučević.
The Ministry also awarded 19 talented athletes, whose results earned them the title of promising athlete for 2019.
Judoka Jovana Peković, kickboxer Miloš Mugoša, karate players Bojan Bošković and Nemanja Mikulić and water polo players Đorđe Čvorović, Mlađan Janović, Danilo Krivokapić, Aron Jovanović, Pavle Krivokapić, Marko Bošković, Miloš Vukšić, Neđo Baštrica, Pavle Kankaraš, Josip Rajhel, Vladan Vukićević, Lazar Vukičević, Andrija Bjelica, Balša Vučković and Novak Vukajlović.
The Minister of Sports and Youth, Nikola Janović, said that Montenegrin athletes could not wait to get their country, that they have someone to fight for and they will not allow anyone to take it from them, change its flag and desecrate their pride and victories.
He emphasized that he expects the holiday to be a guide for athletes to new victories and feats, to new spreading of the name of Montenegro around the world.
"We are celebrating National Team Day, as much a sports as an identity holiday established a year ago through the newly adopted Law on Sports. And in fact - we celebrate the day of Montenegro and its athletes and youth," said Janović.
He emphasized that it is another valuable date that should be a guide for state and national pride and dignity.
"The holiday was established and celebrated for the first time in a completely new environment for Montenegrin sports, in the middle of the mandate of the 41st Government of Montenegro, in which the sports area gained a special place and importance," said Janović.
He pointed out that the second Day of the Montenegrin national team was celebrated with notable results, which the Ministry achieved with the dedication, enthusiasm and knowledge of all employees in that Government department.
"With such determination, already halfway through the mandate, we implemented everything that was an obligation in the field of sports in the Exposition of this Government. And that is why we are particularly proud of the fact that, respecting the results and contribution of our athletes in the promotion of Montenegro in the world, we have significantly improved their position by placing them in a central place in the sports system, where they only belong," said Janović.
He said that in order to strengthen the cult of the Montenegrin national team, together with the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee and the national federations, they indicated to young athletes who are the future of Montenegrin sports that they should follow the path of their celebrated idols who spread the glory of the country to the world because they are the real ones. an example of love for your Montenegro.
Janović emphasized that the Day of the Montenegrin national team is not only a holiday for athletes, but also for youth, pupils and students, the diaspora and all well-meaning people who have Montenegro in their hearts.
"All of them rejoiced at the successes of the Montenegrin national team both in this year and in previous years, admiring our athletes who had the strength to overcome much more powerful rivals. Only such victories, fair and dignified, properly spread the name of our Montenegro around the world, and contribute to its further Europeanization", said Janović.
The ceremonial academy was attended by the highest representatives of state institutions and leaders of the Montenegrin Olympic and Paralympic Committee, national sports federations and athletes.
A ten-minute film dedicated to the results, most significant successes and historical moments of Montenegrin sports was also promoted.
