Jelena Škerović made her debut as the head coach of Montenegro at the European Championship in Serbia and Latvia and got out of an almost impossible situation, as her team defeated the Czech Republic by 13 points in the last round and, thanks to the point difference in the round with them and Sweden, reached the play-off for the quarterfinals.
Sweden was a rival in the Eurobasket qualifiers in Spain and France, and again the "reds" fulfilled their goal and qualified for the continental championship for the sixth time in a row.
- We set plans at the beginning of the qualifications and fulfilled them to the end. I am satisfied with the fact that the team was together until the end, all the girls gave their best. This is the right path on which we would like to continue, both as a team and as individual players - pointed out Jelena Škerović.
The coach reflected on the performance of the younger players, who got a chance in tonight's victory over Israel (78:52).
- I am satisfied, but as always, I ask for more from them. I expect them to work more individually in the coming period, to use the free summers to work on their shortcomings and to improve even more through the game during the seasons. My expectations are really high, but I believe they can fulfill it.
Some of the leaders of the team are already in serious age and the question is what will happen after they leave the stage.
- It will be difficult, but that is a story for after the European Championship. Montenegro has a very small base, but from time to time some talent appears, a promising girl - pointed out Škerović.
