Basketball Podgorica lost tonight against MZT (76:75) in the match of the 9th round of the NLB ABA2 league.
Nebojša Bogavac's team missed the victory in the very end - after Ognjen Čarapić's shots were hit, Podgorica had a three-point advantage (57:75) 72 seconds before the end. Then the former player of Budućnost Volija, Robert Rikić, scored 13 seconds before the end for 75:74, and then the players of the Macedonian club fouled Čarapić, who was inaccurate from the penalty spot both times.
After Čarapić's second miss, Cetinje's Nemanja Milošević caught the ball, played past Adem Mekić, who had an open path to the basket and scored in the last second for a turnaround and MZT's seventh victory in the regional competition.
Tonight, Mekić made amends for the missed throws in the finish of the match with Sutjeska, which MZT lost. And the very end of tonight's match resembled the duel between MZT and Sutjeska, which was played two days ago.
"It's regrettable when you lose a goal in this way. I have nothing to complain about Čarapić. In the last attack, we were late for the rotation and let Mekić go for a layup. It was a good game, we were in a shortened rotation... Desire and combativeness were at an excellent level. Only fighting spirit was missing," Podgorica coach Nebojša Bogavac said after the match.
Podgorica played the entire second half without the injured Nikola Mišković.
"We still have a chance for the playoffs. We have to see what the situation is with Mišković. If there is no more serious injury, let's try to get a result in the next match, which will leave us in the game," said Bogavac.
The Montenegrin team missed as many as 12 free throws (20/32), and Ognjen Čarapić and Marko Kovačević were the most effective with 15 points each.
Nemanja Milošević scored 15 points for MZT.
After tonight's match, Podgorica has three wins and six losses, MZT has a record of 7-2.
Nebojša Bogavac's team will play Pelister in the next round on Friday (12 noon).
