What was announced early this morning is now official - the LA Lakers fired Frank Vogel.
The NBA great estimated that the coach who won the 2020th championship ring in 17 is the biggest culprit for the desperate season, which the "lakes" finished in 11th place in the Western Conference.
In three seasons on the bench for the City of Angels giants, Vogel recorded 127 wins and 98 losses.
"I have the utmost respect for Frank, on and off the field. He is a great coach and a good man. We will forever be grateful to him for the work he put in leading us to the NBA championship in 2020," said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka in an official statement, stressing that "this was an extremely difficult decision, but necessary at this time."
Vogel previously led the Indiana Pacers (2010 - 2016), with whom he played in the East Finals twice, as well as the Orlando Magic (2016 - 2018).
According to the well-known "Atletika", the main candidate for Vogel's successor on the Lakers' bench is the current coach of the Toronto Raptors, Nick Nourse, who was the 2019 champion with the team from Canada.
