The suburb of Copenhagen, Gentofte, will be the scene of perhaps the most important duel for the seventh consecutive placement of Montenegrin basketball players in the European Championships.
Jelena Škerović's team, in which Jelena Dubljević will be our best player of all time after more than a year, will look for a triumph against Denmark tonight (18.30:1 p.m.) to get one step closer to the championship in Israel and Slovenia. Plan B is that, if they already lose, the defeat will be by as small a margin as possible, because it is possible that this will also decide the XNUMXst place in Group F of the qualification after the rematch in Montenegro.
- A very important game and very little time to prepare, but that's nothing new. A difficult opponent, the style of play does not suit us much, with a fast game and three-point shooting. We are getting ready for it and I think we will have an answer. It is important to think about the difference if the result is not in our favor, because the 1st place will be decided by our double match against them. We are certainly going for victory, but it won't be the end of the world even if we lose, because we have a rematch in Podgorica in February - said Škerović.
The team is missing two very important players due to injuries - Milica Jovanović and Markiša Getling.
- It will affect our game. But the big thing is that Jelena Dubljević returned to the national team. We all know her qualities and what she contributes on the field, it will certainly be easier with her. There are also girls in the selection who are the future of women's basketball in Montenegro, this is their chance to show what they can give, to gain experience and feel the weight of carrying matches on their backs - emphasized the coach.
The former first playmaker of the national team is pleased with the fact that the young players, especially from Buducnost Bemax, showed quality and overwhelmingly won the European B Youth Championship.
- They showed their quality in that championship, in training and during the season they confirm it. Marija Leković will be able to show more in this and the next matches, to confirm what she represents in Budućnost and the young national team. But she and the other girls from the U20 selection still have to adapt to stronger senior basketball, since the competition in the WABA league is much weaker. They have a smaller number of strong matches and now we have to see how they will perform and if they can show quality after such short preparations - concluded Jelena Škerović.
