Basketball players from Podgorica defeated Borac from Banjaluka 73:60 tonight at the start of the "balloon" NLB ABA2 league in Široki Brijeg and took a big step towards qualifying for the playoffs.
Podgorica registered its seventh win in the league, has four defeats and tied the table with tonight's rival. Nebojša Bogavac's team is playing excellently, and tonight they registered their fifth victory in a row in the NLB ABA2 league.
Borac led only once, when former Podgorica basketball player Aleksandar Langović scored for 21:20 in the middle of the second quarter. Podgorica controlled the result from the start of the match and victory was never in question.
In the second half, Nebojša Bogavac's team had a 13-point difference (50:37), but Jan Rebec hit two three-pointers in a row, so the people of Banja Luka went on an 8:0 run and got to 50:45. Then the important points were scored by Luka Bogavac, who played another excellent match and Podgorica came out again. Mladen Vujić scored important points in the fourth quarter, and Ludovik Bjehurst put the point on the game with a three-pointer two minutes before the end (71:56).
"Victory means a lot to us. We had an aggressive and fighting approach for all 40 minutes. We did not fall and in the finish we had an enviable margin and reached the victory. I congratulate the players and I hope that we will continue like this in the remaining two matches," said the coach of Podgorica after the match Nebojša Bogavac.
Luka Bogavac and Mladen Vujić marked tonight's match. Bogavac had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Vujić had 13 points and eight rebounds. Bjehurst had 12 points and six assists, and Marko Kljajević had 10 points and four rebounds.
With Borca, Rebec was the most effective with 16 points. Langović scored 12, and Dušan Tanasković 11.
"I congratulate Podgorica on their well-deserved victory. It was a tight game, and they were a level above us. We couldn't match their desire and energy. Today we were outplayed, we needed a lesson like this," said the coach of Borca and former coach of Podgorica Zoran Kascelan.
On Thursday (21), Podgorica will play the second match against Helios in Široki Brijeg.
