While the exciting end of the Eurobasket and the distribution of medals are being prepared, the European basketball public is also concerned with the future of the queen of the games on the Old Continent.
The topic is – the new competition system, the new FIBA calendar, which starts to be applied from November and the qualifying matches for the 2019 World Cup in China.
Due to the disagreement between FIBA and the powerful Euroleague and NBA organizations, the European qualifiers will take place without the best European players.
For our ace Nikola Vučević, such a competition has "no sense".
"It makes no sense, if an agreement is not reached with the NBA and the Euroleague, so that the best players can perform," Vucevic told French media.
Vucevic is just one of those who will not be able to play for the national team, even if they had the desire.
"Imagine that Montenegro qualifies with one player, and then I come and take one place. That's not fair. That's the worst part of this system. All selections will have two different teams - one playing the qualifiers, the other playing the World Cup. It is unfair and makes no sense," says Vučević.
And the fans are at risk...
"A competition is organized without the best players. I understand that they wanted to take the football model, but for that to happen, everyone needs to agree. If that is not possible, it was best to keep the existing system, which I believe has worked well. I don't see what was the problem with playing in the summer. Such a model was quite good," said Vucevic.
