Two years ago, Monaco, led by Zvezdan Mitrović, won the Eurocup for the first time and made a historic appearance in the Euroleague.
In their first appearance in the Euroleague, last season, the team from Monte Carlo reached the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Olympiakos (3:2), and this time they went one step further - Monaco defeated Maccabi 97 tonight on their home field, in the quarter-finals. :86 and qualified for the final four for the first time in history.
Saša Obradović's team broke the game in the finish when they made a 7:0 run and reached 86:79.
At the start, the teams alternated in the lead, but the finish of the first quarter belonged to the guests, who led 10:33 after 26 minutes.
Monaco opened the second quarter brilliantly, went on a 15:0 run, turned it around and took a 41:33 lead. At the end of the first half, Maccabi managed to turn it around (47:45), but at the break, Obradović's team had a four-point advantage - 53:49.
Maccabi led only once in the third quarter (64:63), and after free throws by Jerel, five minutes before the end of the match, the Israeli team had 79:76. Then the aforementioned 7:0 home run followed and the match was settled.
The most effective for Monaco were Mike James and Jordan Lloyd with 21 points each.
With Maccabi, Wade Baldwin was the most effective with 27 points.
The Final Four is from May 19 to 21 in Kaunas, and Monaco will play against Olympiakos in the semi-finals.
