A day after the magnificent game, victory over Italy and placement in the quarterfinals of the Eurobasket, the women's basketball team of Montenegro arrived in Slovenia, where the remaining matches of the knockout phase will be played.
The selection, led from the bench by Jelena Škerović, has been playing fantastically since the beginning of the championship, and now it is in a situation where it is fighting for the very end and placement in the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games. At the first European Championship, in 2011, Montenegro missed two chances for Olympic qualification tournaments - against Turkey in the quarterfinals and Croatia in the match for 5th place.
"From the first day we have been enjoying the European Championship. I think you can see the atmosphere among the girls, we are living our dream. I have participated in six European Championships, there has never been a better atmosphere," said Jovana Pašić upon her arrival in Slovenia.
Pašić has a somewhat different role in this championship, she is ready to enter the game at any moment and help her teammates.
"It's very difficult to watch matches, it's different when you're playing. When you're on the field, you don't think about what happened and what will happen, but you simply focus on that moment. On the bench, you see some things differently, but also some things you don't see when you're in the game. It's quite stressful to be on the bench and support. But, I accepted the new role and I help, cheer and do everything I can to help the team with all my heart. I'm ready to help when the coach decides."
Montenegro played the best game of the championship last night against Italy. Convincing victory (63:49), the rival was set to only 49 points.
Marija Leković was injured against the Italians, she had to leave the game, but it was established that the injury was not of a serious nature.
"Before the start of the match with Italy, I said that we would win by 15 points. We won by 14, I was 100 percent sure that we would win, because the atmosphere and confidence in the team is great. We saw how we felt, how we looked, we knew that our game. We made a plan and we stick to it," said Jovana Pašić.
The next rival is France (Thursday at 18 p.m.), the team that won silver at the previous championship.
"France is a candidate for a medal in all competitions. We have a big heart, which we have shown, and we will go against everyone with our heart. It will not be easy for anyone against us," Pašić concluded.
