Montenegrin basketball players lost to Serbia (63:58) without a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games, but Jelena Škerović clearly says that she is proud of the team because of everything it showed at Eurobasket.
At the European Championship, Montenegro recorded three wins and three losses in six games - it reached the quarter-finals, today it lost in the duel for placing from 5th to 8th place.
"It remains regrettable, but this is a great experience because we played a game against Serbia that was practically decided on free throws and two lost balls. All this will serve us for the next gatherings, I believe it will help the young players to make fewer mistakes in key moments in the future." , Škerović said.
"I'm proud of the team, I thank them for everything we've been through since the beginning of the preparations and through all the Eurobasket games. I think this is the right way to go and that it will help my players in their careers," Škerović said.
Women's basketball in Montenegro is definitely in trouble.
"We have only one senior team, our basketball needs to develop and we need to work on it, to play in Europe. If it were to be at a higher level than the WABA league, because that would mean more serious games than now. That would help basketball players helped a lot in competitions like this," Škerović said.
Captain Milica Jovanović played almost 14 minutes today, she fought as hard as she could after being in doubt due to a calf injury.
"It's not easy for me because I couldn't help as much as I wanted. So a big apology to the team. In the end, it has to be admitted that this is also a success, no one expected us to reach the quarterfinals... We could have matched Serbia, it remains regrettable that we did not take advantage of our chances," said Jovanović.
