At today's meeting of shareholders of the Euroleague, the list of clubs was determined, as well as the format of the competition for the next season.
When it comes to the clubs, there are no changes - all 18 who played in the previous season will play in the next season as well.
This means that the participants are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Valencia, Efes, Fenerbahce, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Zalgiris, Asvel, Monaco, Alba, Bayern Munich, Virtus, Olimpia Milano, Maccabi, Partizan and Crvena zvezda.
The right to play in the Euroleague was previously secured by Gran Canaria as the winner of the Eurocup. But, in the meantime, that team gave up participation due to financial problems.
And when it comes to the format of the competition, there have been some changes. The Euroleague decided to introduce a play-in system in which the teams that finish the season in seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth place will compete.
Seventh and eighth in the standings will decide in one game who goes directly to the quarterfinals. The winner of that duel will play against the second-placed team in the quarter-finals.
The losers from the duel between the seventh and eighth teams will fight for the last place with the winner of the duel between the ninth and tenth teams.
One match is played, and the advantage of the home field will be given to the team that is better placed in the table.
