The long-time captain of Budućnost Volija, Admiralbet ABA League record holder for the number of three-pointers made and the basketball representative of Montenegro, Suad Šehović, has decided to end his career.
Šehović started his career in Bosnia (winning two titles and two cups), and then in 2010 he moved to Ljubljana's Olimpija (winning the 2011 Cup). He played for Budivljenik (won the Cup in 2012) and Himik, before arriving at Budućnost Voli in 2013.
With the "Blues", he won eight titles and ten trophies in the Cup of Montenegro, and the title in the ABA League in 2018, when Budućnost was better than Red Star in the final, is especially memorable.
Last season, he reached the figure of 406 three-pointers in the ABA League, succeeding Sinisa Štemberger (403) in first place.
"I made all the important decisions about my life very carefully. I also thought about the end of my career for a long time. It was not easy to hang up my sneakers, but I believe that this is the right time to retire. There is no greater happiness and privilege than to do a job that you love, and basketball brought me really many good things. In more than 20 years of my career, I experienced a lot of ups and downs, but I never deviated from the path I set out. There were many beautiful moments in the clubs I played for, important victories and titles, but also defeats, sports injuries and some unfulfilled wishes. After both, I tried to stay focused and give even more, to train even harder...", Šehović wrote on Instagram.
He points out that it was a special honor for him to play for the national team of Montenegro.
"It is a special honor for me as a professional athlete, but also a sincere patriot, that I played for the national team of Montenegro and represented it at the biggest European and world competitions."
Arriving at Buducnost Voli is a turning point in his career.
"As an important turning point in my career, I would mention coming to Buducnost, the club where I played the best games, wore the captain's armband, won important titles and stayed for 10 years. I am happy that I am ending my playing career here. Finally, I would like to I would like to thank my family for their love, understanding and unreserved support all these years. Thank you to the clubs that trusted me, coaches, teammates, fans, journalists and all the good people who in any way were part of my sports story and supported me in my career. This is the end of a great life stage, and I'm looking forward to everything new to come," said Šehović.
