Nebojša Bogavac is no longer the coach of Podgorica's basketball players, the Podgorica club announced.
It is stated that the celebrated Montenegrin basketball player's two-year contract has expired.
Bogavac took over the helm of the club on June 18, 2021.
Podgorica, led by Bogavac, played both semi-finals on the domestic stage in the 2021/2022 season, and on both fronts (the First League play-offs and the Cup of Montenegro) they were stopped by Budućnosti, while in the ABA2 league Podgorica achieved a performance of five victories and eight defeats.
In the recently ended season, Podgorica made a breakthrough - they played in the Cup final (defeated in a dramatic finish by Buducnosti), the quarterfinals of the First League playoffs, and the semifinals of the ABA2 league.
In the regional competition, during the league part, Podgorica had a score of 9-4, and in the quarter-finals it eliminated the current champion Zlatibor (89:64), only to suffer a defeat against Krka in the semi-finals (86:74).
Bogavac started his coaching career in 2012 at Hemofarm, and on two occasions in Strasbourg (from 2013 to 2014, and from 2017 to 2020) he was an assistant to Vincent Cole, who was his coach at Le Mans.
He also led the junior national team of Montenegro.
"During the two seasons of managing Podgorica, Nebojša Bogavac left a special mark, which is why we owe our former boss a special thank you and wish him much success in his continued career. Thank God and good luck," the Podgorica club announced.
