Greece will be much weaker and the upcoming Mundobasket poorer for another big NBA star.
It was hinted at during the summer, and now it's official - Janis Adetokumbo will not play at the World Basketball Championship, which starts on August 25.
The center of Greece and the Milwaukee Bucks announced this on Twitter.
"After several months of work and multiple meetings with the medical staff, it is clear that I am not ready to compete at the level required to participate in the World Cup," Adetokumbo wrote.
He added that everyone knows that his passion and love for the national team will never change.
"I am very disappointed, because the medical team's decision did not leave me with a choice. If I had tried to force myself to return to the field, I would have risked my health. My goal, as well as that of the entire national team, remains to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games, and it would be great for me. honor to represent my country in that competition," said Janis.
If the Montenegrin basketball players in the group with Lithuania, Mexico and Egypt win one of the first two places in the new group of the main round of the World Championship, they could meet Greece.
Rivals of "Helena" in Mundobasket are USA, New Zealand and Jordan.
