The USA, Canada, Serbia, Germany, Australia, Japan and South Sudan are the selections that, through Mundobasket, qualified for next year's Olympic Games in Paris.
Along with France, as the host, there are eight of the 12 selections that are sure participants in the Games. The other four places will be filled after the qualifications, which are scheduled from July 2 to 7, 2024.
And for the first time in history, the Montenegrin basketball team will play in the qualifiers, which won that right after the extraordinary Mundobasket and the 11th place.
How does qualification for the Olympic Games work?
24 teams participate in the qualifiers, which will play in four tournaments. There will be six national teams at each tournament, which will be divided into two groups. The winners of the four tournaments will fill the remaining four spots.
Who is participating besides Montenegro?
Some very powerful selections are participating in the qualifiers. Europe, apart from Montenegro, is represented by the current European champion Spain, then Lithuania, Slovenia, Italy, Latvia, Greece, Georgia, Finland, as well as Poland and Croatia, selections that won that right in the pre-qualifications.
Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Angola, Philippines, Lebanon, Bahrain, New Zealand will also participate in the qualifiers, as well as Brazil, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, which eliminated Argentina in the pre-qualifications.
The Olympic Games are held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
