Philadelphia basketball player Joel Embiid will undergo knee surgery this Sunday, the NBA club announced today.
Embiid injured the meniscus in his left knee on Tuesday in his team's loss to Golden State.
Philadelphia did not specify how long Embiid will be out.
Last season's NBA MVP has already missed 13 games this season, so it is already clear that he will not be able to defend this title, since according to the new collective agreement, players must play 65 matches in the league in order to remain in the race for the MVP, as well as the All - Old weekend.
Embid is currently the NBA's leading scorer with 35,3 points per game, and averages 11,3 rebounds and 5,7 assists. He scored a career-high 70 points with 18 rebounds on Jan. 22 in a 133-124 win over San Antonio.
The previous night, seven games were played in the NBA, and they were marked by the turnaround of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma was 23 points behind, but in the end, after two overtimes, it managed to beat Toronto 135:127 and remain first in the West with a score of 35/15.
