The president of the Basketball Association of Montenegro, Jelena Dubljević, sent a telegram of condolences on the death of Matija Šarkić, the goalkeeper of the national football team.
"It is difficult to find words after we received the news of the premature departure of Matija Šarkić. In these difficult moments for his family, Montenegrin football and sports in general, on behalf of the Basketball Association of Montenegro and on my own behalf, I send my sincere condolences to Matija's family, friends and the entire football community to the community.
We will always remember his cheerful spirit and energy, and his unforgettable defense against Belgium just ten days ago will be remembered by generations," the telegram states.
Šarkić's departure also shocked our national team, which gathered today.
"We were deeply affected by the news of the sudden death of the Montenegrin national team player Matija Šarkić. On behalf of the coaching staff and the entire Montenegrin basketball team, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Šarkić family and the entire Montenegrin football public at this difficult time," said Montenegro coach Boško Radović.
