After ten days of preparation, it's time for the first control match - the Montenegrin national basketball team will play the first match of the Acropolis Cup tonight (19) in Athens against Greece.
After hosting the tournament, our selection will play a control match against the Bahamas tomorrow. Both opponents are participating in the qualification for the Olympic Games.
"After ten days of preparations in Podgorica, we arrived in Athens, where we will participate in a strong tournament, where, in addition to the hosts Greece, the Bahamas selection is also playing. These are two very high-quality national teams, and these tests will mean a lot to us," said Marko Simonović, center of Montenegrin representation.
Boško Radović's team is expecting two strong tests - Greece will be led by Janis Adetokunbo in the Olympic qualifiers, and the Bahamas will be led by NBA aces Deandre Ayton, Eric Gordon and Buddy Hield.
"We are well aware of the quality of our rivals. As for Greece, it is a selection made up of Euroleague and NBA players, so we are in for a tough match. We will try to give our best and leave the best possible impression," Simonović added.
After the tournament in Athens, Montenegro arrives in Podgorica, and on June 30, it travels to Riga for Olympic qualifications. The team is in Riga in a group with Brazil and Cameroon, while in the second group the hosts are Latvia, Georgia and the Philippines. Our selection will play its first match against Brazil on the second of July.
"Brazil is the first match and we have to go for the win. We will try to get the best possible result and qualify for the second stage," emphasized Simonović.
