Partizan basketball players beat Bayern Munich 86:78 (24:15, 25:17, 22:20, 15:26) tonight on their court in Belgrade, in the match of the third round of the Euroleague and achieved their first victory in that competition.
In the sold-out Belgrade Arena, Partizan was led by Sterling Brown with 22 points, Karlik Jones scored 14 points with five rebounds, and Isaac Bonga, Tyrik Jones and Frank Nilikina each had 13 points.
In the Bayern team, Andreas Obst was the most effective with 15 points, Carsen Edwards added 13 points and four rebounds, and Nick Weiler-Bab had 12 points and six rebounds. Devin Booker finished the game with 11 points, and Shabazz Napier with 10.
Partizan started the game with threes by Braun, Ife Lundberg and Bonga, but Bayern also scored and was in the game through Weiler-Bab and Obst (9:9).
The black and whites shot well for three points, Vanja Marinković, Braun and Bonga scored for a 24:15 advantage at the end of the first period.
The home team continued with a good three-point shot, with two triples by Brown, who in those moments scored four triples without a miss, and with the points of Tyrik Jones and Nilikina, Partizan led 37:20.
Partizan also played a good defense led by Tyreek Jones, and with the points of Brown, Davis, Karlik Jones, the black and white team gained 22 points - 45:23.
Partizan's 8:0 series was answered by Bayern with a 6:0 series, and the Belgrade team left at halftime with a 17-point advantage, 49:32.
Bayern started the second half with two three-pointers by Edwards, then Brown scored on the other side. Partizan had problems with fouls, and through Obst, with five connected points by Johannes Vojtman and a basket by Booker, Bayern got closer to 46:54.
Partizan repelled Bayern's onslaught and after Nilikina's three-pointer, Bonga's free throws and Tyrik Jones' baskets led 68:50. The black and white team played better in defense, and Nilikina's three-pointer ended the period with a 71:52 advantage.
Bayern tried to get back into the game with two connected three-pointers by Napier, and after bad attacks by the home team and five connected points by Weiler-Bab, they reduced the deficit to nine points, 67:74.
After that, it was basket after basket, and Edwards reduced the score to six points with his third triple of the game, 78:72.
On both sides, the teams scored penalties, and after a basket and an additional free throw, Lundberg brought Partizan 83:74, a minute and a half before the end. The black and whites kept their advantage until the end and achieved their first victory this season in the Euroleague.
Bayern also have a win and two losses.
In the fourth round, on Thursday, Partizan will play in Belgrade as a guest against Maccabi from Tel Aviv, and Bayern will welcome Paris.
Tonight, Baskonia defeated Real Madrid - 76:72, and the European champion Panathinaikos also fell, on the road to Paris - 84:80.
Žalgiris beat Virtus in Bologna with 71:60, while Maccabi defeated Efes 93:91 in Belgrade.
Olympiakos was convincing against Armani in Piraeus - 89:68.
