Red Star basketball players were defeated tonight on the away court in Kaunas by Žalgiris 84:86 (18:24, 15:23, 24:19, 27:20), in the match of the sixth round of the Euroleague.
The most effective for Zvezda were Uroš Plavšić and Cody Miller-McIntyre with 16 each and Nemanja Nedović with 15 points.
Žalgiris was led to victory by Dievidas Sirvidas with 17, Silvian Francisco with 15 and Alen Smailagić with 14 points.
Zvezda recorded three wins and three losses, while Žalgiris registered five wins and one loss.
In the next round, Zvezda will meet Panathinaikos in Belgrade.
After an equal part of the first quarter, Žalgiris reached an eight-point advantage at the end, but Zvezda went to the first break with a six-point deficit, 18:24, thanks to Giedraitis' goal in the last second.
Žalgiris played tighter in defense in the second half and after six minutes of the game reached a double-digit advantage 25:35. Zvezda managed to stop the onslaught of the Lithuanians with the tied threes of Dobrić and Kalinić.
Zvezda allowed Zalgiris a lot of easy points, and the Lithuanians took full advantage of Zvezda's weaker defense and, with excellent team play, went into halftime with a 14-point lead, 33:47.
Zvezda did better in the continuation and with a series of 10:1 after four minutes of play came within five points behind 43:48. In the last minute of the third period, Žalgiris made a series 6:2 and in the last period Žalgiris entered with a nine-point advantage 57:66.
After three and a half minutes of play in the last part, Zvezda came to only two points behind, 66:68, after a three-pointer from Kalinić, but Žalgiris, after a point from Francisco and a three-pointer from Butkevičius, reached plus seven 71:78 with five minutes to go.
With four minutes to go, after points from Nedović and Plavšić, Zvezda managed to get back into the match and come within just one point behind, 77:78, and after Plavšić's dunk, the "red and whites" managed to tie the game two minutes before the end: 79: 79. Žalgiris went into the last minute with a point advantage 79:80.
With 11 seconds left, Francisco made both free throws and gave the Lithuanians a three-point lead, but Miller-McIntyre tied the score with a three-pointer in the last second. With 1,3 seconds left, Dunston managed to receive the ball, score and bring victory to Žalgiris.
Partizan basketball players lost in Belgrade against Monaco 74:79 (21:23, 12:23, 23:15, 18:18).
The most effective in the Partizan team were Ife Lundberg and Karlik Jones with 15 points each and Isak Bonga with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Alfa Diallo with 18 points, Mike James with 16 points and Eli Okobo with 15 points were the most effective in the Monaco team.
Partizan has two wins and four losses, while Monaco has four wins and two losses.
Monaco managed to take the lead 76:73, with 20 seconds left in the game, with baskets by Eli Okob from half-distance and a foul by Mike James, and to keep the lead until the end of the match.
Panathinaikos basketball players won in Athens Asvel 92:68 (27:14, 18:15, 25:23, 22:16).
The most effective for Panathinaikos were Lorenzo Brown with 17, Kendrick Nan with 14, Juanchu Hernangomes with 13 and Omer Jurceven with 10 points.
Edwin Jackson with 13 and Shaquille Harrison and Neal Sacco with 12 points each were better than the others for Aswell.
Panathinaikos recorded four wins and two losses, and Asvel is close to two wins and four losses.
