It will be the same after tonight's battle in Badalona - Buducnost Volija basketball players were defeated by Huventud, 78:72 in an exciting match of the 8th round of the Eurocup.
Andrej Žakelj's team, which during most of the match played without Kenan Kamenjaš (injured his wrist), but with the returning Žuvan Morgan, mostly "chased" the rival's advantage... Two and a half minutes before the end, thanks to Rashid Sulajmon, who was in a good mood at that moment, and took the lead 72:70, but two quick three-pointers broke the match.
After eight rounds, the Podgorica club has three wins and five losses and is below the line that ultimately leads to the playoffs.
No solution for Dotson
After two and a half minutes, Andrej Žakelj had to ask for a time-out after the scoreboard in "Paveljo Olimpik" showed 8:0 for the host.
After that, everything looked much better, Buducnost "lived" in those moments from offensive rebounds, Jogi Ferrell hit a three-pointer, then forced a foul in the attack and assisted Kamenjaš, so the "blue and white" quickly came back (11:7 )
However, on the other side, in a trance, was Devon Dotson, who was without a miss for a long time, and at one point in the first quarter, he scored more points (15) than the entire team of Budućnsti (12).
Futura took its first lead at the end of the first quarter, when Rashid Sulaimon scored a three-pointer and McKinley Wright scored two points (20:19).
During the next two quarters, Juventud was mostly in the lead, several times it managed to create a mini-series, but Andrej Žakelj's team, on the wings of McKinley Wright, would always come back.
In the middle of the third period, the "blue and white" could have taken the lead, but with the result 48:47, mistakes allowed Cashius Robertson to score five tied points to make the home team breathe easier again...
However, it was precisely the third quarter that was the best for Budućnost, so the Montenegrin champion, after free throws by Wright and the returner Žuvan Morgan, came to 61:60 before the decisive ten minutes.
Administrators on the social networks of the Eurocup were particularly interested in the way in which Morgan takes penalties.
Sulaimon awakened hope, Deker and Hanga solved the match
And, through them, Aleksa Ilić and his friends felt the victory, Sulajmon hit a three-pointer for 70:70, then made a great assist for Morgan (72:70), but Sam Deker and Adam Hanga connected two three-pointers and broke the match...
In the end, the match was prolonged, but not because of uncertainty, but because of a problem with the scoreboard, so the basketball players of both teams had to warm up for the remaining 32 seconds as before the start of the match...
There will be a week of break due to the obligations of the national teams in the Eurobasket qualifiers, and then the last match of the first round of the group stage - against Wolves.
