The basketball players of SC Derby have been defeated only once in the AdmiralBet ABA League this season, by Partizan, but outside of "Morača" they have not yet shown why many see them in the fight for a place in the playoffs of the regional competition.
"Students" played only two away games in the eight rounds so far and they lost both of them - against Cibona in Zagreb and Krka in Novi Mesto, on courts where they objectively had a chance to reach a "break".
The third chance is Split, tonight from 20:4, from which the Podgorica team has won more (score 4-XNUMX).
"Ahead of us is a difficult visit to a team whose quality belongs to the upper half of the table. Split are a physically very well selected team, with clearly divided roles. So the defense of Split's key players determines our chances in this game," said SC Derby coach Petar Mijović.
On Monday, SC Derbi defeated Mornar in a small Montenegrin derby - it was 99:91.
"Despite the victory, we want to correct the things that were not good in both directions and play a good match against a favored opponent," added Mijović.
Split has three triumphs, one of them is against the Euroleague team - Crvena zvezda at home.
"Split is a team that plays particularly well at home. He won Zvezda and Mega at home, defeated Borac away... He has two defeats in a row and surely wants to react. But our goal is victory, it would mean a lot to us before the national team break", emphasized the young basketball player of Derby, David Mirković.
Tradition is in favor of the derby, because so far he has won in all three matches in Dalmatia.
"As always, Derbi is an ambitious team with a quality squad. The people of Podgorica have played several great games this season, we know it will be difficult, but when we are the hosts - everything is known, we want to play aggressively, bravely, with confidence and to win. This season, even stronger opponents than Derby have fallen at Gripe", said the coach of Split, Slaven Rimac.
