Greek basketball expert Dimitris Itudis has been appointed as the new coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv.
"Hapoel from Tel Aviv has announced the appointment of Dimitris Itoudis, winner of two Euroleague titles and two Euroleague best coach awards, as its new coach," it says on the website of the Eurocup, in which the Israeli team is playing.
Itudis will replace fellow countryman Stefanos Dedas in that position, who will remain at the club in the role of assistant coach.
The Greek was without a club since last December when he left Fenerbahce.
He won two Euroleague titles as a coach of CSKA Moscow (2016, 2019), while as an assistant to Željko Obradović at Panathinaikos, he won another five cups (2000, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2011).
Hapoel is third in the Eurocup standings (in which Buducnost Voli is) with five wins and three losses, while in the Israeli league it has all five triumphs.
Among others, former LA Clippers player Patrick Beverley, recent Fenerbahce center Jonathan Motley and former Partizan basketball player Bruno Caboclo are playing for Hapoel from Tel Aviv this season.
