One less club in the First Montenegrin Basketball League - Milenijum announced that due to financial problems, it was forced to leave the elite rank after only eight rounds played and a performance of wins and seven losses.
The Podgorica club issued a statement stating that "despite all efforts" it was unable to secure sponsors.
"During the past five years, despite a modest budget, the club achieved outstanding results and became a recognizable brand of the capital. The 2022/23 season was particularly successful, when the club won fourth place in the First Montenegrin League, reached the semi-finals of the Cup and won participation in the final four of the Balkan League," the announcement states.
"However, for the continuation of such a successful sports story, and especially for senior basketball, sponsors and people who recognize and support our work are necessary. Unfortunately, this season we did not manage to secure the necessary financial support, despite all our efforts. Maintaining the club without state support , the capital and sponsors became an impossible mission".
"We thank all the players who were and remain part of our blue and gold family, our loyal fans who supported us in victories and defeats, as well as the members of the Board of Directors who were there from the very beginning: Boris Pižurica, Bogdan Bukilić, Ivan Šoć , Dušan Gojnić, Dražen Bogojević and Mladen Konatar bookies, Lukani and many other friends of the club. Without all of them, the club's successes would not be possible," Milenijum announced and concluded:
"Even though the senior team stops working, Millennium will continue its mission through youth selections, with a focus on the promotion of Montenegrin basketball and the development of young talents. And you never know - maybe in some better times the club will reactivate the senior team and return to where it was is a place - in the company of the best".
