Wherever he worked, medals arrived, whether he was the coach of Yugoslavia, Serbia or Germany, success with Svetislav Pešić was guaranteed.
One of the best basketball coaches of all time, a gentleman who was a European and world champion, who recently led Serbia to the Olympic bronze medal, was a guest of the new edition of the show (Un)supjeh champions, hosted by the famous handball player Mirza Džomba.
"The show is called the (Failure) of the champion, and the failures are forgotten, because somehow we prefer to win, but we learn the most from defeat and failure," the legendary coach pointed out, among other things, and then revealed.
"I have to admit that at one point in my career, I thought that we were winning only because I was the coach. Fortunately, the championship came and we lost there, so that I could come back to reality."
He also talked about the relationship between coaches and players...
"I would point out Pep Guardiola - we were together in Barcelona, then in Bayern, we hung out, he likes basketball, I like football. Why do I mention him? The reason he succeeded is because the coach must not put himself above the team, because as says Miroslav Ćiro Blažević - if you think you are a genius, then you are the biggest fool," explained Pešić.
There is a lot of experience behind the famous coach, so it was interesting which players he thinks are the best.
"In the beginning it was Mirza Delibašić, as someone who knew how to change the players, the game... As a coach, I thought it was Detlef Schrempf or Toni Kukoc, and then Dejan Bodiroga came because he transformed from a playmaker under Bogdan Tanjević to the best scorer in Europe".
And today?
"Now I think that Nikola Jokić is the best - he is versatile, he understands basketball and what you can't see, he is dedicated. He comes the best prepared, he is the best in the tests and he will always do everything in training," said Pešić.
