The Montenegrin women's basketball team has a clear goal tonight (19.30:XNUMX p.m.) in Aarau, Switzerland - to beat Switzerland so that they can have a match point against Luxembourg in Bar on Sunday for their eighth consecutive place at the biggest event on the Old Continent.
Jelena Škerović's team traveled to Aarau via Belgrade and Zurich, where they will play a match in the 5th round of European Championship qualifiers.
Our basketball team had only three days of preparation in Bar for the most important games, against Switzerland and the last one on Sunday at 16 pm in Bar against Luxembourg, with whom they have the same points balance in Group H, three wins and a loss each.
- I always say this, but we really look forward to every team gathering. We have great energy, an incredible atmosphere, and every girl is extremely motivated, which is certainly visible on the field. There are two crucial matches in the qualifiers, but now the maximum focus is on the duel in Switzerland. We are going to win, but definitely with great respect for our opponents. It will not be easy, we are playing away, and we know that Switzerland recently defeated Luxembourg and that away. However, we have known from the beginning of the qualifiers what our goal is and we will try to fulfill it for the eighth time in a row - emphasized Jovana Pašić, defender of our team.
Switzerland made our team happy with their triumph in Luxembourg in November, because with a break in Switzerland, our basketball team would have had the opportunity to be first in the group with even a minimal victory in Bar over Luxembourg.
- We don't do calculations, nor do we think that way. I don't want to think about what will happen in case of defeat. We depend on ourselves, we want both victories, and that's why we need to achieve a good result in Switzerland. We have to be maximal, respect all tasks and agreements, and then I'm sure that the result will not be lacking - emphasized Pašić.
Our women's basketball team began qualifying in November 2023, when they defeated Switzerland 85:61 in Herceg Novi. Another triumph against the Swiss would mean that Jelena Škerović's team does not have to chase a 23-point triumph against Luxembourg for first place on Sunday.
- We have a decisive cycle ahead of us and we are aware of the importance of the game. We beat Switzerland in Herceg Novi, we know what awaits us, we want to win, although it will not be easy - said Bojana Kovačević, Montenegro's power forward.
