What a two and a half months, what a character, what a game Buducnost Voli... When Spartak celebrated in "Morača" on November 17, there were few who believed that the "blue and white" would string together 11 victories in the AdmiralBet ABA League in the coming period, that they would defeat the Euroleague teams in the middle of Belgrade.
After Partizan, Crvena Zvezda, the fifth-placed team in the Euroleague, was also demolished in the Serbian capital (96:89). Another proof that Buducnost can dream of championship dreams this season - however, coach Andrej Žakelj is letting the ball drop.
"We have shown that we can play with both, and the most important thing is that the players believe. We have too many games, there is fatigue and injuries, and unfortunately we have now lost Džuvan Morgan," Žakelj said at a press conference.
Of course, the Slovenian expert must be satisfied with the performance of his boys.
"We've been playing good basketball since the beginning, and in the last two months we've had two losses in both competitions, which is an indication that we can do it. The players believe in what we're doing and it's bringing results. The league is long, there are still many games to play and we should put the ball down," Žakelj is clear.
The big derby was decided in overtime.
"It was a real derby, a great game and I'm glad to have to congratulate the boys on their reaction after two slightly weaker games. They showed character, stuck to the agreement from the locker room and were focused, which is very important when you're tired. We controlled the score throughout the game," concluded Žakelj.
Buducnost is at the top of the ABA League with a record of 18-2, the same as Partizan, while Red Star is at 16-4.
