Dallas basketball player Kyrie Irving has been subsequently selected to participate in the upcoming NBA All-Star Game in place of his teammate Anthony Davis, who will miss the match due to injury.
Davis suffered a left hamstring injury in his Dallas debut against Houston and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. He joined the Mavericks as part of the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
This is Irving's ninth career All-Star selection, and in 2014 he was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the All-Star Game.
Atlanta point guard Trae Young will also play in the All-Star Game in place of Milwaukee power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who will miss the game with a calf injury.
Young will be part of Charles Barkley's team, which will also feature Serbian national team player Nikola Jokić.
This will be the fourth time the Atlanta playmaker, who leads the NBA in assists per game, will play in the All-Star Game.
The traditional West-East match will be replaced by a four-team tournament. The semi-finals will be played on February 16th, with the finals scheduled for the same evening. The winner of each match is the team that reaches 40 points first.
