The day the Dream Team was born - could Yugoslavia break the myth?

One of the most important dates in basketball history is June 28.

Why - on that day, the strongest team in the history of basketball, the one and only, the first and last "Dream Team" ran onto the field for the first time.

"It's like if Elvis Presley and the Beatles played on the same stage," is the famous comment of Chuck Daly, the coach of the American national team at the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Exactly 25 years ago, on June 28, 1992, in the first round of the American Olympic qualifications, in the "Memorial Coliseum" hall in Portland, the USA selection, in which the biggest stars of that time played, defeated Cuba 136:57.

It will be remembered that the first basket was scored by Larry Bird.

Besides him, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Scotty Pippen, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Chris Mullin and Charles Barkley, and Christian Leitner, as a representative of college basketball, wore the jersey of the national team.

The "Dream Team" won the Olympic gold medal, and beat their rivals by an average of 43,8 points.

The closest were the Croats, with Dražen Petrović, Toni Kukoc and Dino Rado - they lost the final 117:85.

These are the facts, but the question will remain - whether Yugoslavia, with the mentioned Croatian players, and Divac, Paspalje, Đorđević, Savić... could match and perhaps surprise the best team of all time...
