Red Star has had some unexpected defeats lately, such as those against Žalgiris and Olimpia Milano in Belgrade, but a much bigger surprise than those two results is the victory of the "red and whites" against the Euroleague leaders.
Red Star won Piraeus, outplayed Olympiacos (81:73) and is once again in the fight for a place in the playoffs of the elite competition.
Red Star had a 17-point lead in the first half, Olympiacos came close to minus three in the third quarter (58:55), but the guests made four three-pointers in the same number of attacks at the start of the last quarter - scored by Jago dos Santos, Nemanja Nedović and two by Ajzea Kenan. Olympiacos never recovered from that blow...
Rokas Gedraitis led Red Star with 20 points (three-pointers 7-6, all in the first half), Cody Miller-McIntyre had 15 with 11 rebounds, while Sasha Vezenkov was the most efficient for the Greek team (19 and nine steals).
Giannis Sferopoulos' team did not include injured players Joel Bolomboy and Luka Mitrović, as well as Filip Petrushev, who was not eligible to play given that he was on loan from Olympiacos.
Despite the defeat, the giant from Piraeus is still two wins ahead of second-placed Fenerbahçe, who lost in the Principality to Monaco - 91:82.
Mike James dominated with 29 points, while Eric McCullum (24) stood out on the other side.
