The head coaches of EuroLeague clubs have supported the EuroLeague leadership and its direction for the future of European basketball, the EuroLeague Coaches Committee (EHCB) announced today.
"We firmly believe that the EuroLeague remains the best league in the world outside of North America, that European basketball is on the rise and beyond its borders, and this should be respected with actions, not words," the EHCB said in a statement released today.
It is reported that the club coaches have supported the Commercial Assets Committee (ECA), following a meeting held on Monday, April 7th.
"As coaches of the most successful continental competition in history, which has shaped the basketball landscape on the continent and beyond for a quarter of a century, we believe that the future of this sport in Europe is more than bright and we are only beginning to scratch the surface of the potential that basketball has in Europe," the Euroleague Coaches Board said in a statement.
The American professional basketball league (NBA) recently announced that it is exploring the possibility of establishing a rival league in Europe together with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The EHCB statement said that the EuroLeague has been at the forefront of evolution for 25 years, "creating a true league that includes every bastion of basketball across Europe and remains open to anyone who wants to share this vision."
With a unique blend of on-court talent and fan engagement, the EuroLeague is recognized worldwide as the premier basketball league, the statement added.
"While we are not ashamed to speak our minds and believe that even greater progress can be made, we cannot underestimate what has already been achieved on and off the field. Therefore, we remind you that teamwork is important... Synergies cannot be ruled out with any interested parties who want progress, provided they respect what has already been achieved and want to build on it," the statement reads.
