Montenegrin basketball coach Nebojša Bogavac could be the head coach of former European champions Limoges next season, French media report.
Limoges will start rebuilding the team in the summer, looking for a new coach, and the first choice is Bogavac, who has been successfully leading ASA Basket in the PRO B championship, the second French league. With three rounds remaining in the regular season, ASA is in sixth place, which takes it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The team also achieved great success by reaching the quarterfinals of the Cup, and in the quarterfinals, Burg was better by a point (65:64).
On the other hand, Limoges is fighting for survival in the French LNB league this season, and with three rounds remaining, they are in the safe zone and have two wins more than Le Portel, who are in the danger zone. The team lost to Monaco 91:52 in the previous round.
Limoges has been French champion 11 times, winning its last title in 2015. It was European champion in 1993, when it beat Benetton in the final. Limoges' coach at the time was Božidar Maljković.
Nebojša Bogavac spent part of his successful playing career in France. He played for Asvel, Dijon and Le Mans. He also played for Gorštak, Lovćen, Hemofarm, Breogan, and also played in Tehran. He was a member of the national team of Serbia and Montenegro, and then Montenegro.
With Hemofarm he won the ABA League and was MVP of F4 in 2005, and with Asvel he won the title in France.
After finishing his playing career, he began his coaching career. He was the coach of Hemofarm, and then an assistant to Vincent Colle in Strasbourg. He was the coach of Podgorica, and in 2023 he went back to France, where he was on the coaching staff of Metropolitan.
He was the coach of the Montenegrin junior national team, with which he won the European Championship B Division in 2016.
