Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green will receive an official warning from the NBA after he picked up his fifth technical foul in the playoffs, and after the game against Minnesota, he said that he was "fed up with being constantly portrayed as an angry black man on the court."
Green, known for his aggressive style of play, earned a technical in Golden State's loss to Minnesota on Thursday night when, after a foul by Naz Reed, he waved his arms and made contact, which the referees deemed unsportsmanlike conduct.
"I'm tired of the agenda that constantly portrays me as an angry black man. I'm a very successful, educated black man, with a wonderful family, great at basketball and at what I do. This need to constantly portray me as an angry black man is crazy. I'm tired of it. It's ridiculous," Green said.
According to league rules, any player who accumulates seven technical fouls in the playoffs is automatically suspended for one game.
After the fifth technical, the league sends an official warning.
"That's part of Draymond. The same passion that makes him a great competitor and winner sometimes takes him over the edge. Our job is to help him stay composed, but the competition means so much to him that sometimes he loses control," said Golden State coach Steve Kerr.
According to SportRadar, Green has earned a total of 202 technical fouls in his career.
