Many were expecting a Greek Euroleague final in Abu Dhabi, but after Panathinaikos, Olympiacos also received a slap in the face.
The best team of the regular season and, according to many, the first favorite for the trophy, was shocked by Monaco (78:68) and for the first time in history they will play in the final of the most elite European competition.
Few could have predicted this result, but it will remain recorded that Olympiacos was stopped on its way to the title by its playing legend - Vasilis Spanoulis, who sits on the bench of the "princes".
Monaco had a plan they didn't give up on, and at the start of the third quarter they reached a 13-point lead (55:42).
Olympiacos, led by Evan Fournier, cut the deficit to 55:51 after 30 minutes of play, but the start of the final period convinced Mike James and his teammates that this was their night - they once again reached a double-digit lead that the Greeks could no longer threaten.
Alpha Diallo was the most efficient player in Monaco with 22 points, James recorded 17 and seven rebounds and assists, and perhaps the key role was played by center Muamadu Zaite, who finished the match with 11 points and six steals...
Fournier, on the other hand, had 31, while Saša Vezenkov had only seven points and seven rebounds.
The Fenerbahçe - Monaco final is on Sunday at 19 p.m.
