A day after the semi-final of the AdmiralBet ABA League between Buducnost Voli and Crvena Zvezda, the regional competition announced the decision, and the reason was the situation at the end of last night's game, when Red Star basketball player John Brown scored a basket, which was canceled because time expired.
With 53 seconds left in the game, Buducnost had a one-point lead (77:76), and Braun scored a basket. However, the Red Star player did not make the shot in time, so the referees confirmed their decision after reviewing the video and announced that the points did not count.
Therefore, the ABA League convened a refereeing expert to determine whether the correct decision was made. And the expert opinion showed that the referees acted correctly.
"With the score 77:76 on the scoreboard and 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter, a situation occurred that raised doubts about the correctness of the referee's decision. Then, Red Star player with the number 1 on his jersey, John Brown, made a shot that ended in the basket just before the 24-second attack period expired.
In such situations, the referee team is obliged to stop the game (regardless of when the situation occurs during the match), award a 24-second timeout, and then check the correctness of the decision with the help of a video review (IRS). When using the IRS, it is necessary to determine whether the ball left the player's hand before the yellow LEDs on the board light up.
"The referee team correctly applied the previously described procedure for using the IRS, after which the final decision was made not to recognize the scored goal because the footage showed that the ball was still in contact with the player's fingers at the moment when the diodes on the board lit up," the ABA League announced.
