After two terms, during which he became a legend of Murcia, Montenegrin basketball player Nemanja Radović is leaving the Spanish club.
Radović played for Murcia from 2014 to 2017, then returned in 2020, where he has played to this day and made history for the Spanish club. With Murcia, he reached the final of the Spanish Endesa League last year, in which his team lost to Real Madrid, and then won third place in the FIBA Champions League.
This season, Murcia finished in ninth place in the Endesa League, outside the playoff zone, while in the Champions League, they finished in the second stage.
"I have been a professional for over 14 years, 12 of which in Spain and nine defending the colors of the club I have always loved, Murcia. I am no longer a child, I am aware that my career is closer to the end than the beginning. Although I am in excellent physical shape and am maturing, my role on the field will continue to decline over time, and my salary will not be at its peak either. These last two factors, money and playing time, have never been priorities when it comes to extending my contract with this club that I love so much. During this season, I have constantly reiterated that I am here to help the club in any way - on and off the field," Radović said at a press conference, as reported by the Spanish club.
The Montenegrin national team player is the top scorer (2.379) and the player with the most index points in Murcia's history (2.385). During his time with the club, he had 1.195 rebounds, 205 assists and 120 blocks. Radović is also the player with the most games played for Murcia.
"A few days ago I received an offer that, at this stage of my career, I did not expect. It is a club from another continent and it is a very large financial offer. I have known the coach for many years and he offered me a very important role in the team. The future of my family is my priority and I want to finish my playing career feeling important on the field," Radović added.
The decision to part ways with Murcia was not easy.
"I spoke with my husband and the club's general manager, Alejandro Gomes. I am very close with Gomes and we spoke as friends. He told me that it was a great offer and that he would accept it if he were in my place. He also told me that the club would accommodate me and that we would terminate the contract. I thank the club president and the entire Mendoza family for allowing me to be an ambassador for the club and the University," said, among other things, Radović.
The Montenegrin national team player thanked everyone at the club.
"Thank you for believing in a 22-year-old kid at a very difficult time and for changing that kid's life. Thank you to all the coaches and teammates I've shared the locker room with all these years. Sito (Alonso) thank you for coming from Barcelona to be here. Thank you to all the employees at the club, in the office, fitness trainers, physiotherapists... Thank you to the fans too. I will never forget the wonderful moments I experienced here. I had the honor of receiving the trophy for winning second place in the Endesa League, I hope that one day we will celebrate our first title together. This is not the end. I will always consider myself part of this club and I hope to return in a few years. Thank you," said Radović.
