The best player on the Finnish national basketball team, Lauri Markanen, has confirmed that he will play for the country at the upcoming EuroBasket.
Finland is one of the four hosts of the group stage, the matches in Group B are played in Tampere, and the group also includes Montenegro, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden and Great Britain.
"Whether it's club or national team level, you never want to be on the sidelines. It's always an honor to wear the Finnish jersey. Of course, I'm looking forward to the games, but I also feel excited about the preparation period and training camp," Markanen said in an interview with Finland's MTV Utiset.
Finland was one of the four hosts in 2017 and the matches were played in Helsinki. The Finns finished second in the group and lost to Italy in the round of XNUMX.
"The mood was really crazy in 2017 and I expect the same this year. I hope we can be even better. The hard work is behind us and there will definitely be success, of course we will go for a medal. It is not enough for us to just play our home games in Finland. We want to continue on the path to Riga," said Markanen.
Riga will host Group A matches, as well as the knockout stage matches. In addition to Finland and Latvia, the European Championship will be held in Poland and Cyprus.
The Montenegrin national basketball team will play a match against Finland on August 30th in the third round of Group B.
Eurobasket is scheduled from August 27 to September 14.
