The AdmiralBet ABA League season has ended, and the Assembly will be held on Wednesday, where very important decisions will be made.
It is almost certain that the ABA League will expand from next season, that the teams will be divided into two groups, or conferences, and as Mozzart Sport unofficially learns, the ABA has decided to sell licenses to participate in the competition for a period of three years.
The amount for clubs outside the former Yugoslavia region, in this case Cluj, Vienna and Hapoel Tel Aviv, which are most often mentioned, will be 500.000 euros per year of license. Which means that some of these clubs, if they want to play in the ABA League, will pay 1,5 million euros for three seasons.
For clubs from these regions, the annual license fee will be 300.000 euros, while Mornar and Cibona, who were eliminated from the regional competition this season, will have a special price. Bar and Zagreb would have to pay 200.000 euros per year, writes Mozzart.
Dubai, which debuted in the ABA League this season, pays 1,7 million euros per year, or with all travel, accommodation and other expenses covered, 2,5 million euros per season.
Arena Sport announced a little over a week ago that Cluj and Vienna would enter the competition, with Hapoel Tel Aviv on the waiting list. After recent events in Israel, the entry of the Eurocup winners into the regional competition is not such an unrealistic scenario at all, writes Mozzart.
The ABA League would invest the money received from the sale of licenses in a prize fund that could potentially bring the champion millions in earnings, which is also one of the novelties.
Also, one of the changes could come in the competition system, as the ABA League is considering introducing F4.
So, on Wednesday, everything could be much clearer.
