The Montenegrin women's basketball team is completing preparations for the upcoming European Championship, which will be held from June 18 to 29 in the Czech Republic, Greece, Germany and Italy.
Our team has had a month of preparation behind them, during which Jelena Škerović's team played nine matches - Montenegro won four out of five matches at the Games of Small Countries of Europe in Andorra and took first place, while in the control matches they were defeated twice by Serbia, and once by Slovenia and Italy.
"We have had a month of preparations behind us, during which we also played test matches. We had nine preparation matches - four a little stronger, the last two with Slovenia and Italy. We know what awaits us in Brno. The competition system has also changed, so it will not be easy at all," said national team player Jelena Vučetić.
Montenegro will play their group stage matches in Brno. The group includes the host Czech Republic, current European champion Belgium and Portugal. Two teams from the group advance to the quarter-finals. The first match is on June 19th with the host, the day after the rival Belgium, while the match with Portugal is scheduled for June 22nd.
"The first game against the Czech Republic can decide a lot. The Czech Republic is the host, has a good squad, and has a lot of players who play in the Eurocup and Euroleague. It won't be easy, but I believe in us, even though we have a rejuvenated squad and we don't have two important players on the roster. Anything is possible. I hope that the combination of youth and experience will bring a good result at the European Championship," said Vučetić.
