After a four-year hiatus, Virtus is once again the champion of Italy, for the 17th time in history. The team from Bologna defeated Brescia (96:74) in the third match of the final series last night and returned the trophy to its showcases.
Vritus was led to the title by Montenegrin coach Duško Ivanovic, who further enriched his trophy collection. Ivanovic won trophies in five different countries (Spain, France, Serbia, Italy and Switzerland).
Virtus had the most problems in the playoffs against Venice, and only resolved the series after five matches. Then the team from Bologna was better than Olimpia from Milan (3:1), and in the final, it seemed that they had the easiest job.
Last night, Shengelia was the most efficient with 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Taylor had 19 points and six assists.
For Brescia, Burnell was the most efficient with 24 points. League MVP Miro Bilan had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Montenegrin point guard Nikola Ivanovic had 11 points.
Nikola Ivanovic had a very good season in Brescia, averaging 13,8 points and 3,9 assists.
