The Montenegrin women's basketball team will play against Portugal tonight (20.15:XNUMX PM) in the last match of the group stage, which will also mark the end of both teams' participation in this year's EuroBasket.
The Czech Republic and Belgium have qualified for the quarterfinals, but Montenegro will look for a chance to win in tonight's match, in order to win third place in the group, and at the same time provide itself with a somewhat easier draw ahead of the new qualifying cycle.
-The match against Portugal has no significance in terms of results, because after the defeats against the Czech Republic and Belgium, we were left without a chance to reach the next stage. But, the match will certainly be important for both us and Portugal, because a victory will mean everything to everyone. We will do our best even after a day of rest and I am sure that we will improve some things and that we can achieve victory – said Jelena Vučetić, playmaker of Montenegro.
Portugal has already made history in Brno – it's their first time at the European Championship, they were expectedly defeated by the Czech Republic and Belgium, and tonight they are chasing a new moment to remember, namely their first victory at a major competition.
-We have seen during this championship what kind of team they are. It will not be easy, because we know that they have a lot of experienced players. But I hope that everything is up to us and that we can achieve victory. Portugal beat Serbia in the qualifiers, had good periods against the Czech Republic and Belgium, and it was also clear that when they are losing by 20 points they never give up. So it is clear that it will be difficult – said Vučetić.
The player from Novalja will play her last match tonight, as she has already confirmed that she will end her playing career after appearing at the European Championship.
-It would mean a victory for our national team. It will be especially emotional for the three of us, who have already announced the end and farewell to the national team, I am ending my career due to injuries in the previous period and I think that was enough, so the duel against Portugal will mark my definitive end in terms of active playing - underlined Vučetić.
