A familiar face from the A-League courts will lead the basketball team of Sutjeska next season.
Marko Simonović, former basketball player for Budućnost Voli and Red Star, expressed his satisfaction after signing a two-year contract with the team from Nikšić.
"First of all, thank you to the people from the management for the opportunity and the trust shown. Sutjeska is certainly a great club, with tradition and stability, which is a rarity and an important thing for a young coach. That is one of the reasons for my arrival. After the first meeting with president Aleksandar Popović, I saw that this was it, that I definitely wanted to be a part of Sutjeska. We quickly agreed," Simonović told the Sutjeska website.
Simonović had his first coaching engagement at Red Star, where he finished his playing career.
He later became the coach of Radnički Kragujevac, which was his first independent coaching job.
Now he's on a new assignment:
"I would like us to create a warrior team, to be a team recognizable for fighting, for running, more aggressive play in defense and beautiful play in offense. Our task will be to give more than one hundred percent in every training session and every game."
The backbone of the team, as in previous seasons, will be the guys from Nikšić.
"I like it when there are a lot of local players. No player from outside can love and feel the club like the local guys do. There will be a lot of them, with a few reinforcements from outside. We'll see what we need to strengthen in order to complete the team," said Simonović.
He hopes for the support of the fans.
"One of my wishes is for the Sports Center to be full for every game. For the hall to be filled, for the audience to come back and recognize what we are doing. For us to try to achieve a good result together," Simonović concluded.
