The Basketball Association of Montenegro should get a new president tomorrow - the extraordinary election session of the Assembly begins at 13 pm, and the only candidate for the new president is the leader of Budućnost Voli, Dragan Bokan.
Bokan's candidacy was supported by 43 clubs, or 53 delegates. The KSCG Assembly has 90 delegates, and the presence of 46 delegates is required for a session to be held.
"The Assembly makes decisions if more than half of the members of the Assembly of the Basketball Federation of Montenegro are present, by a majority vote of the members present," states one of the paragraphs of Article 14 of the KSCG Statute.
The KSCG has been in an acting position since the end of April, when Jelena Dubljević resigned. The Montenegrin basketball legend has been the president of the Federation since November 2023, when she defeated Nikola Peković in the elections.
Then, in mid-May, PR Center reported that more than 30 Montenegrin basketball clubs had signed and supported Dragan Kadić's candidacy for president of the KSCG.
A few days later, Dragan Bokan told "Vijesti" that he was considering the option of running for president.
"I am seriously considering running for office and will make a decision soon. If I assess that things in the Basketball Association can be improved in a way that the Basketball Association can fulfill its primary role - a service to clubs, a service for the development of basketball, I will run," Bokan said in a text published on the "Vijesti" portal on May 21.
Meanwhile, the Extraordinary Election Session of the Assembly was scheduled for June 23, and Kadić was the only candidate. Three days earlier, the Alliance announced that Kadić's candidacy had been supported by fifteen clubs with 24 voting delegates.
But the session, scheduled for June 23rd, was ultimately not held because there was no quorum, so Kadić's election as president did not go through.
"Out of the total number of delegates (90), 38 delegates were present, and the minimum necessary for the work of the KSCG Assembly is 46 delegates," KSCG explained at the time.
Meanwhile, a new Extraordinary Election Session of the Assembly has been scheduled for July 22nd, and Kadić issued a statement on July 16th, calling on delegates to "resist pressure and manipulation."
Then, on July 17, the deadline for submitting candidacies for the new Extraordinary Session of the Assembly expired, and only Dragan Bokan's candidacy arrived at the address of the Serbian Communist Party of Montenegro.
After that, Kadić said in a new statement that he consciously refused to apply for the new competition.
"I consciously refused to apply for a new, illegal competition because it would legitimize a procedure that is clearly contrary to the Statute, and enable others to enter the electoral race without a legal basis. This would represent a direct attack on the legality and value of my original candidacy, which was submitted on time and in accordance with all the rules. I will not participate in farces that undermine the legal order of the Alliance," Kadić said at the time.
A new session is scheduled for tomorrow. It is also expected that Dragan Bokan will be elected president of the KSCG.
