New season and new role – Marko Sekulić has been appointed coordinator of all junior teams at the Podgorica Bemax basketball club.
"Sekulić was a long-time coach of the junior team, with whom he became the champion of Montenegro, and last season, at a delicate moment, he accepted to be the head coach of the senior team. Under his leadership in the IA MCKL and NLB ABA 2 leagues, Podgorica Bemax promoted some new, younger talents, thus indicating that this would be the primary goal - to rely on younger domestic players," the club explained.
Just before the start of the new season, Marko Sekulić reached an agreement with the club's leaders on a new assignment - he will be the coordinator of all junior teams.
"For years, Podgorica has been recognized as a club that places great emphasis on working with younger teams. We have excellent conditions and we are trying to promote as many players as possible year after year, who would be the backbone of the first team in the coming period. The club decided that the first team would also be composed mainly of younger players, so it was very important that we follow all the teams and, by working together, help to have as many players from our school in the coming period as possible. That is exactly why this new role seemed attractive to me, because I like being with young players and following their work and development," Marko Sekulić told the club's website.
In the upcoming season, certain changes have been made to the coaching staff – the pioneers will be led by Petar Kusovac, the cadets by Lazar Mašanović, and the juniors by Stefan Milicković.
"These are younger guys who have been in this business for years, except for Petar Kusovac, who decided to dedicate himself to coaching after his playing career. I think we have a lot of work ahead of us, it gets harder every year, because a lot of younger players see themselves in America, but Podgorica is certainly already recognized for the exceptional development of young players, and I am sure they will be extremely interesting for the first team," explained Sekulić.
