The current coach of the Montenegrin national basketball team, Boško Radović, has a new assignment in China - Radović will be an advisor to the Guangdong Southern Tigers, the most trophy-winning club in China, which has been the champion of that country 11 times.
Radović will be an advisor to head coach Du Feng, and has signed a one-year contract.
"The organization is at the level of NBA clubs, everything is perfect. I am very satisfied. I will first be in the role of an advisor. I believe this is the biggest challenge in my club coaching career and an opportunity to prove myself. I believe I will prove myself immediately in the first season," Radović told "Vijesti".
Montenegro begins World Cup qualifiers in November. Radović's contract with the Federation has expired, but he has left an option to appear in Montenegro during the FIBA 'window' if he remains the coach.
Radović has repeatedly mentioned that since February, when Montenegro qualified for the championship, no one from the Federation has spoken to him about possible cooperation or separation.
Radović was the head coach of the Montenegrin national basketball team for six years, succeeding Zvezdan Mitrović in 2019. He led the team at EuroBasket 2022 and 2025, as well as at the WorldBasket two years ago. He is the only coach to have led Montenegro to three major competitions.
He was previously a member of Mitrović's coaching staff, collaborating with Duško Vujošević, Dejan Radonjić and Bogdan Tanjević, and also managed the junior teams and was involved in the work of the Federation. He was also the coach of Podgorica for a time.
Montenegro's participation in the 2022 continental championship - which it qualified for after sanctions were imposed on Russia and the country was expelled from the competition - ended in the round of XNUMX after losing to Germany.
A year later, the historic World Basketball Championship followed, in which our team took 11th place, thus participating in the Olympic qualifiers. The game against the USA at that tournament will be remembered, in which Montenegro had a one-point lead at halftime (38:37).
And then this year came the new Eurobasket, in which Montenegro was not complete. Our selection, led by the masterful Nikola Vučević, finished the competition in the group stage, and after two continental championships, failed to reach the knockout stage.
During Radović's mandate, Montenegro had continuous participation in major competitions and was always part of the elite.
