Podgorica's Bemax basketball team will host Borac Banja Luka tomorrow (18pm) at the "Bemax Arena" at the start of the new ABA2 league season.
During the break between the two seasons, Podgorica Bemax made a lot of changes to its playing staff – after one season in Teodo, Danilo Ivanović returned to the team, and in addition to him, Stefan Adžić, Srđa Bulatović, Aleksa Bulajić, Petar Minića, Siniša Šorak, Lazar Radetić and Dušan Mahorčić arrived, while Miodrag Kadija took over the helm.
After almost two months of preparation and eight friendly matches (Baškimi, Sutjeska, Kotor, Al Ahli, Sloboda, Zlatibor, Mornar and Vukovi Zeta), the ever-young Podgorica team awaits its first challenge tomorrow.
"The start of the new season awaits us, and after a tough preparation period, we are eagerly awaiting the premiere duel. At the start, we play against Borac from Banja Luka, a team that is very high quality and experienced, so we have a tough job ahead of us. We don't have much information about them, which is always a problem at the beginning of the season. We have a young team that is eager to prove itself. I am sure that we will fight and that my players will give their maximum, and what that will be enough for remains to be seen," Podgorica Bemax coach Miodrag Kadija told the club's website.
The match between Podgorica and Borac will open the season in the ABA2 league.
"We have the first match of the new ABA 2 season ahead of us and it is a great honor to open the competition on home soil. The team is motivated, we have worked well during the preparations and we want to show real character. Borac is a quality opponent, but we believe in ourselves and our team spirit. We expect a good, fighting game and a real test at the very start of the season," said Podgorica first team player, Danilo Lacmanović.
In the regular season, each team will play eight matches, and after that, the eight best teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
"The ABA 2 League has a different competition system compared to previous seasons. It will be very interesting, eight games against different opponents in the regular season increase the importance of each game. We open the season with a difficult away game against Podgorica, led by experienced coach Miodrag Kadija. We expect a tough game with a lot of transition. Ivanovic, Adzic and Mahorcic have the quality and experience to lead this team on the field. In addition to them, they have very talented young players who will look for their chance to prove themselves," said Borac coach Marko Šćekić.
