One of the worse teams in last season's Eurocup and the team that opened the new season in this competition with only 48 points scored against Burgos on their home court, "thundered" against Podgorica.
The basketball players of Budućnost Voli are unrecognizable at the start of the new season. After Spartak, Trento also won the "Morača" hall - 107:96, in the 2nd round of the Eurocup.
At the start of the match, fans of the Podgorica club unfurled a banner through which they wished the Montenegrin champion to reach the top this season, but the first matches show that the "blue and white" are far from such stories at the moment.
The good thing about it all is that it's just the beginning and Andrej Žakelj has enough time to fix everything, and if nothing else, he can be somewhat pleased with his team's reaction in the last quarter when they went from minus 17 to minus five.
It was clear from the beginning that this would be a complicated evening for Andrej Žakelj's team, his guys had poor shooting percentages, and Trento escaped for the first time in the second quarter at 39:32.
At that moment, Skylar Mays woke up the "blue and white" team, scoring eight points, followed by Nikola Tanaskovic with four points, and the Montenegrin champion reached 44:39 with a 12:0 run.
Buducnost also had a plus nine (52:43), and the good rhythm was spoiled by Andrej Jakimovski's three-pointer at the sound of the siren (56:53).
That moment seemed to herald the troubles that would follow, Trento ran past the players in blue jerseys through counterattacks, quickly turned the score around, and then steadily increased their lead until the end of the third quarter.
During the last minute and a half of that period, Jakimovski scored eight points (two three-pointers), and the team from Dolomiti went up a whopping 15 points (83:68) before the last 10 minutes.
Trento took the lead to an unreal 95:78 with six minutes left, and it seems that Buducnost only woke up then, too late.
With a 12:0 run, again mostly through Mace, they reached 95:87, and Aksel Butej's three-pointer brought the "blue and whites" to 95:90 with three minutes left. The fans in "Morača" created a great atmosphere then, believing in a "crazy" turnaround, but apparently not those who were on the floor of our largest hall.
Trento had an answer, and Andrej Žakelj's team came close once more after that to 99:94. However, a foul by Fletcher Magee on Devonte Jones during a three-point shot put an end to the match in "Morača".
