Miami coach Erik Spoelstra is set to become the head coach of the US basketball team.
Spolstra and USA Basketball have not yet completed negotiations, but they are expected to be completed in the coming days.
Spolstra would succeed Steve Kerr on the Yankees bench.
The U.S. has won the last five Olympic gold medals, and Spolstra was a member of the coaching staff that triumphed in Paris last summer.
Spoelstra is entering his 18th season with Miami, making him the NBA's longest-tenured coach following the retirement of Gregg Popovich from San Antonio.
He won two titles with Hit.
In the NBA, he has a record of 787 wins and 572 losses.
